screen gone black

Hi there JesaBenstock.

My screen keeps going black as well. I can hear the phone ringing and receiving text messages but cannot answer them as screen black and frozen - perhaps it's the Winter Virus!? Have you any idea why this is happening or is yours all better now?

I now know about holding sleep and home key to get back to life but would rather it didn't freeze at all.

I'm having the same issues with my iPhone and my wife's. It happened twice for me this week.

Any ideas whether this is related to the os or any app installed? We have a lot of common apps, and I asked a friend and the black screen never happened to him(so far).

My screen only seems to go black when someone has left me a voicemail?!

I did read somewhere that this can arise when a hard case is on the phone and I do use the Gear4 IceBox. Apparently the sensors then don't work properly.

I'm getting a slip case for Christmas so perhaps this will sort it?

I had the same problem. I was able to reboot by holding down both buttons for 10 seconds. After reboot, my phone came up as though it hadn't been activated, and demanded to be plugged in to iTunes. Once plugged in it worked fine, and displayed the message "iPhone is activated". All my apps, notes, pictures, music, etc were still there. Weird.

I never had a problem with a black screen until today when I started using the incase power slider case.
I was able to get the screen back after taking off the case and holding down the power button and home button at same time for 10 seconds. My screen is now back.
I am hoping that the case was the problem and this doesn't happen again. I wonder if I can get my money back for the case??

My iphone screen goes black when I'm in the middle of a phone call. This becomes a problem with menu driven phone systems or when I have to hang up, as i cannot get the screen back to figure out where to touch keys to press a button or to hang up. Only way to "fix" the problem is to turn the iphone off and then turn it back on.

This is very annoying. Is it a software bug or a hardware malfunction?

I have this problem too in the morning...
The screen is black and someone called me but i cant answer the phone...
cause i can slide to unlock the screen..

But now the problem is gone... thanks me... LOL

You guys... just restore your iphone... and follow the construction...
