g4 cube DVD drive help?

Hi all. I am playing with a G4 cube now (450mHz, 1g Ram, DVD drive). The problem I have is the DVD drive can read DVDs, music CDS, but not data CDs. Any suggestions. I'd appreciate it.

What is the media format (RW? +R? -R?) and formatting used (Mac? PC (and which?)? Unix?) for the data CDs? Is this just happening on specific CDs you have recently tried to use or on data CDs from everybody at any time, even ones that worked before? Commercial CDs as well as home-made ones?

At this stage I'm going to hazard a guess that these are burned CDs. Burned media on a whole is harder for drives to read and if a drive is old and starting to show problems (normally solved most easily and inexpensively by replacing the drive) it is usually with burned media first.

What exactly happens, or doesn't, when you put in the CD? Is it only this CD that is a problem or other CDs? What are you trying to do with the CD? It's possible the CD has problems, but you need to do more testing before ascertaining that. It's possible the drive is having problems. Maybe it's what you are trying to do with the CD.

It's an OSX 10.3 CD Apple manufacture or a MacSoft Civilization CD and it says that the disk inserted is not readable by this computer. I have used both disks in a CD drive of my G4 lombard, and a G4 533 digital audio so I believe there may be a drive malfunction of some sort. Like I stated earlier it reads DVDs and music CDs just fine. It also read a MacSoft Stronghold CD fine so this puzzles me.
