Wireless Printing with Livebox and Canon MP610

Hi,
Newby Mac user so pse excuse my ignorance. I'm trying to wireless print from my MacBook to a Canon MP610 printer via an Orange Livebox. Just won't go but windows XP PC's will!! Tried downloading and using Gutenprint V5.2.2 CUPS drivers but still no joy when using IPP setting and 192.168.1.1 IP address. It will print via direct USB no problem, any thoughts, help??

New MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

If the XP PCs work fine, then check the port configuration so you can set the Mac the same. You will probably find they have defaulted to Port 9100. If so, then on the Mac, add the printer queue again, but select IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket. Then use the same settings as per Windows for the address (the queue will be disabled as this is defaulted to 9100). Finally, for the Print Using, browse to the Gutenprint driver you have installed, as the Canon drivers don't work for this type of network connection.

Hope this helps

I don't know if I'm doing this right by replying or if i should make my own topic, but i recently 'saw the light' and came round to mac from pc. i am also relatively new to computers and am an absolute noob with difficult things. my question is, i have just bought an mp610 and am wondering wether i can set up wireless/infared (anything without a cord) printing without that wireless base station express/extreme thing and just use my imac as the router thingy-ma-bob. is this possible and how do i do this with my imac, and even my macbook if possible. thanks, i really want to get into the whole macintosh wireless world asap.

Hi MacUberFan, In answer to your question, in theory, you could use the canon **-20 bluetooth adapter to print via bluetooth from your iMac and MacBook. Rooting around on the internet it would appear that you can only print via bluetooth and the scan and fax options aren't supported (to much data??). As this is the same as a wireless connection then no great shakes. I plan to use the USB connection for the rare occasions when I want to scan. The **-20 is quite expensive for what it is. Some of the discussions mentioned that you could use a standard USB bluetooth dongle...maybe that would work and be cheaper in the long run???

Hope this helps

hey, im new and this stupid thing never lets me find where to post my own question. but this one is similar enough. the other guy got a solution but it was too complicated for my understanding!

I have a Canon pixma printer (MP610 model) and an imac (intel, OS X 10.5.6). the printer worked when i had them connected by cord to each other in the living room, but i moved the imac to my bedroom, and wanting to setup the wireless thing is harder than i thought.

i heard the original drivers supplied werent too good for macs, so i got the new improved version from the site, and deleted all the old programs, but HOW ON EARTH DOES THE PROCESS GO FOR SETTING IT UP?!?!

please, anyone if they know, simple, VERY dumbed-down instructions on what i need to do: muchly appreciated! i need to do it soon too.

Since the MP610 doesn't have built-in wireless, you will need to have the MP610 connected via its USB cable to some device that can share the printer across a wireless network. This could be an Apple product, like an Airport Express, or a wireless print server, such as those offered by D-Link, Belkin and Netgear. You could also have it connected to another computer, either Mac or Windows, and then shared. Of course, this computer sharing the printer would have to be connected to your wireless network.

Since you haven't mentioned your network setup, then could you supply some more information. Assuming that you have left the printer in the loungeroom, is it currently connected to another computer?

Another MP610 question here. I've been messing around with settings for days but can't get it to print from my wife's PC. Here's the setup:

The MP610 is connected to my airport express via USB. Printing from my iMac (running 10.5.6) works perfectly fine. My wife's PC is another matter. I enabled printer sharing, and can even find the printer after installing a new network printer on her settings. When I try to print something, it even shows up on the printer's queue on my iMac, but then errors and says the printer is offline.

Is there anything I'm missing here? Help would be GREATLY appreciated!
