How can I write a phonogram symbol on mac?

Your answer though is:

In system prefs click on "International", click on "Input Menu", enable "Character Palette", if you have enabled "Show input menu in menu bar" goto menu bar and select "Show character palette", the character palette window should open, select view "Roman", in the first window on the left just below view, select "Miscellaneous", in the window to the right select "by Category", in the first row, top left, of the second window your symbol should appear, select it, now in the bottom most window it will show you which fonts contain your selected character, and finally bottom activate Photo Shop, create a text box and the n bottom right hand side of the "character palette" click insert.

when you open photo shop create a text box, then try selecting the font that is suggested in the character palette ie: Lucidia Garnde, then click insert, failing this click insert then select the suggested font and see if the P appears then, it just sounds like the correct font is not selected.
