Shift / Spacebar combination

Hello,

I have a strange problem that has been occuring for some time now (even on my old iBook G4). I've been on 10.5.5 for a while and just updated to 10.5.6 so I know that is NOT the issue. When I am typing and need to insert a space after a capital letter, the space does not get inserted because in most cases, I am still holding down the shift button.

Why doesn't the space bar work when holding shift? It is so annoying and I can't change my typing habits to overcome this! I've tried. Is it something with accessibility? I have noticed that if I highlight words and then press shift + space, my computer will say what has been highlighted. Cool option, but I would love to turn it off so that I can make capital letters on the fly without having to fix my works when I type "Iwould" or the such.

Thanks!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
