iPod disk error?

hello,

I've been browsing the apple.com site to get some useful informations about my problem but it all seems, that it's not covered in any category...

I own an iPod click-wheel 40gb and here's the scenario:

I primarily use my ipod on Macintosh platform, but one day i was copying music files to ipod from itunes and all the sudden my PC freezes. I couldn't do anything. So i grabbed my ipod; there was that Do Not Disconnect icon, but Windows just did not respond for about 15 minutes! I heard that click-noise inside the ipod, knowing that it was something about the disk (i could hear the silent click-sound of the disk starting and stopping, starting and stopping,... without any progress) so my hair went all up. I reset my computer and while rebooting i disconected the ipod. tried to run the ipod, but it didn't respond. all i could see was an Apple icon and the disk still clicks on/off! Jesus, so i put it on side for a while, and after reseting it (pressing menu and center) the folder with an exclamation sign appeared (with that not-shure-what-is-happening-to-my-gizmo "hhtp://www.apple.com/support/ipod" text). i was REALLY irritated. I remember trying to restore it or update the firmware but nor Mac or Windows machine could recognize it! Like it wasn't even plugged in! Now I can't even turn it on, to have it reset or whatever it want's to be done...

Now i wonder what did i do wrong?

After some "research" i found that the ipod desktop stand (that the ipod was plugged in while copying those files) had a loose connection, and I remember swinging my ipod forward/backward IN the stand. Is this normal, or could have I disconnected my ipod while copying, just for a fragment of a second, with quaking my desk? Could this began my problem?

I bought my ipod from a second-hand salesman two months ago, he assured me, that everything works intact, and so did I experience it (if I forget about fast battery power consuption 🙂. It has been updated with 2005/09/23 updater and never used in disk mode.

Please help me, I just hope it does not require to buy me a new one!

Thank you for your kind help and have a nice Day. Luka
