MacPro and Bose Companion 5 speaker system

Has there ever been a clear and concise solution to the following problem using the Mac Pro and the Bose Companion 5 speaker system.

-- The sound drops out or never turns on after a restart, the puck is unresponsive (solid green, never turns amber when touched)

The only solutions that I've seen online and worked somewhat successfully are to unplug the USB or power from the speakers for 5 minutes and then replug.

I have an AppleCare case on this issue but as you might imagine Apple hasn't 'heard' of this issue. When I call Bose customer support they also say they haven't heard of the issue and suggest I call Apple since it works with Windows.

After having just returned my iPhone 3G because Apple and AT&T wasted 6 hours of my time troubleshooting issues, I am wondering if I will have to do the same thing with my Bose speakers.

Any acknowledgement from Apple or a consistent workable solution would be appreciated.
