Vcard in signautre is not Windows-friendly

I have no problems sending normal attachments as Windows-friendly attachments, but I recently encountered a problem with sending a vCard as part of my standard email signature.

Because you drag-and-drop the vCard into the signature file, there is no (obvious) way to make this file Windows-friendly. Not recognizing the potential problem here, I included this vCard in my standard signature for a period of about a month. For most users, there were no problems as most users in my office use Thunderbird, which handled this just fine. However, I began to notice problems when working with folks using Microsoft Outlook and Hotmail, particularly when I would reply to or forward a message. Essentially, anything that was included below my vCard would be dropped from the email entirely, so they would not see the email I was referencing.

I eventually figured out what was going on and removed the vCard, and everything works fine now. However, as the primary client-facing POC for my office, I'd really like to be able to include that extra bit of contact info in my signature.

At one point I actually tried sending a copy of the vCard to myself as a standard, Windows-friendly attachment and dropping the resulting file directly into the signature, but that did not seem to help the problem; clearly the resource fork is getting recreated at some point between receiving the file and re-posting it in Mail.

Does anybody know of a way to get a Windowd-friendly vCard into a Mail.app signature?

Why not just bypass the Mac-Windows file type issues and do this instead:

Add it as a hyperlink to a remotely-stored vCard file, so that recipients can easily download it into their Address Book. To do that:

1. Select the desired text in your email signature;
2. Control-click on it;
3. Select the new Edit Link option; and
4. Enter the web address where your vCard is stored.

Well, partially because I want it to be right there (I don't expect many people to actually use it, and even a smaller percentage to go to the trouble of following a link to get it).

But mostly, I am really hoping that this wasn't a glaring oversight on the part of the Mail development team, and that there is in fact a solution (if somewhat obscure) . . . with as many things that are done well with this program, this seems like an unnecessary limitation. For that matter, the whole idea that "Windows-friendly" attachments aren't the default for an out-of-the-box Mac is a little baffling in its own right, but that's another conversation . . .

The idea of putting your vCard into a signature should work, as it does for many people, but with minor details of operating systems and programs frequently changing without the user knowing in advance, there is never a guarantee. For people who use Windoze, it could very well be something on their email program that is the cause of the problem, but without testing, there's no way for any of us to determine that.
