Can I use my mac to update a windows ipod? The ipod needs a system update.

Hi Dianne, I don't think this is possible as the iPod is formatted for use with Windows. I may be wrong though but I wouldn't try it myself.
Yeah - I did some searching and if I update it, it switches to an apple machine.
Dianne,
It depends on what you want to do exactly. If you simply want to transfer songs etc to the Windows formatted iPod on a Mac, then yes, you can do this because a Windows iPod can be read and written to on a Mac.
However, what do you mean by this?

Hey - kind of figured it out - here's the 411 - I can transfer the songs to the ipod, but there are updates to the ipod system software that happen. I can't install those because if I do, I totally mess with the windows of it all. 🙂
Yes, if you keep it Windows formatted, then all the software updates would have to be done on a Windows machine.
I have an Ipod for windows. Can I play my ipod on a Mac? Would the Mac/Itunes ask me to update my ipod to Mac? If I do that, can I format my ipod to mac and later reverse to window without problems? I have to Dj for a friend's party and he has a mac laptop wired to the whole sound system. Of all the options, hooking up my window/ipod to his mac is the easiest solution ..is that possible?

Yes, because Windows formatted iPods can be read on a Mac. No need to reformat it, if it's just a one off, leave it as it is.
