iPhone and Windows Vista - Impossible?

I have spent 6 weeks trying to get my iPhone to talk to my new Windows Vista computer, all solutions didnt work. Does anyone have a REAL solution? Apple claims that Windows 64-bit environment will never be supported for iPhone - am I screwed by the rivalry?

One of them needs to step up to the plate,

Vista IS IMPOSSIBLE! I was a windows user until vista came out. I purchased a vista desktop AND laptop the day vista was released. It was the worst decision I ever made! Solution: Dual boot with XP or Leopard or Linux!

Have you contacted Dell? I've got Vista talking to a customer's iPhone: first had to apply latest Vista updates and then find out which usb item was causing an upset. In this case a Dell webcam! Uninstalled and phone talked to iTunes (latest v. obviously) However it's no way as straightforward as plugging into a Mac.
