Audio Levels too low with ATR35s lavalier microphone

Hi,

Have a new lavalier microphone from audio-techica the ATR35s.
I have it plugged into the audio-in jack and have played with the sound pref pane and my audio-in levels are in the basement. I have moved the slider all the way to the right but still barely audible.

Anyone with a suggestion on how to boost the audio signal?

The audio-in jack is line level (for the output from hi-fis etc), and microphones have much too low an output for it. You will need to get either a microphone preamplifier or a mixer. There are various small mixers available from firms such as Alesis and Behringer. In the UK Maplin (http://www.maplin.co.uk) sell a microphone preamplifier and Alesis mixers: there must be similar firms in the USA.
