Image corrupted from import.

Hey all,

I've run across this problem a time or two while using Aperture. A given image will be corrupted after importing and will have portions of the image damaged with a colored pattern (see below). This time around I re-imported the image and it worked fine. Any ideas what causes this? Does anyone else run into this problem?

A screen shot from Aperture of the originally imported (corrupt image) next to the second imported image which is fine.

Thanks for any responses.

-Mac OS X 10.5.6
-Aperture 2.1.2
-SanDisk Extreme Card Reader (firewire 800)
-SanDisk Ultra II 4 Gb Flash Card

Hi
This is an interesting one Eric, I have never seen this before, sorry I cant offer a definitive answer.
But it does look like some of the data has not transferred at the same instant as the rest of the data.
Looking at the drainpipe in your photo on the left, the drainpipe is staggered to the right, as if the data has been delayed in transfer, and then attempted to add it later, but the transfer has finished...??
Or maybe I am talking Martian...... :o)
A few suggestions, corrupted/Faulty Sandisk card reader....? I had a Sandisk Extreme card reader pack up on me completely. Changed it....all ok. Dont know why it gave up...!
The fact that it only does it occasionally might suggest the card reader... Worth a try..
Corrupted Ultra11 flash card....??
Possibly an in camera fault.... did you turn the camera off while it was writing to the card..??
I would eliminate those problems first, unless someone on this forum has seen this before, and can pinpoint it to a Computer or Aperture fault.......
Good luck solving it......
Happy Xmas.....

Hi Windhoveruk,

-I am very good about not pulling the card out while the camera is on, so that is not the issue.

-It is possibly the card reader (this problem has only happened once before in the 3 years I've used it, though it was in the last month).

-I have had problems with a few of my CF card (I have 5), a number of them will have corrupted files on occasion. But when that happens the files are even more drastically altered and if you look at them in the finder they are still corrupted (see image below).

Also when that happens, Aperture, is able to detect the corrupted files and tells me it failed to import them because they were corrupted.

Because I was able to re-import and get an uncorrupted file it makes me believe that the card was not at fault at this time.

-Aperture could be at fault, but I would like to think it is something else (makes me feel more secure that way).

-If it happens again I will try and find a different card reader and see if that helps.

Kind Regards,

I'm having the same problem. I saved my photos onto a NTFS external disk drive with my Vista computer prior to converting Mac. On the Mac, the pictures display as corrupted with streaking and color corruption, but if I view the same image with Vista on the bootcamp partition the images display without corruption.

Any thoughts on why this is happening?
