Can I download music that was purchased from iTunes more than once?

I have just lost my iTunes library including purchased music. Is it possible to download purchased music a second time?

I think the official answer is no, because Apple must pay the music companies for each download. I have read on this forum that unofficially you may try to throw yourself on the mercy of the court, and despite all the warnings when you buy the music that you may not download again for free and you really should make backups, they might let you do it if you can really convince them.

Use the form on this page to request a free redownload, or use the Transfer Purchases feature if applicable. If neither of these works, you will need to purchase the content again to get them back; Apple needs to pay the copyright holders for each download from the iTunes Store other than podcasts, album artwork, and iPod touch/iPhone applications.
