belkin firewire express card help

I need installing the belkin usb/firewire express card. Everytime I plug it in, the mbp tries to install it, then it locks up my entire computer.

I'm trying to import video from a camcorder that uses a firewiere 400 cable. I thought I could use this express card to import the video via firewire 400 but it doesn't look like it's working.

any thoughts?

thanks.

Can't help you with a card, but have you tried Firewire 9 to 4 pin cable (or converter)?

Here is one:

You shouldn't need the express card - FW 800 is backwards compatible with FW 400 and should work as long as you have the physical connections correct. I say should because some folks have had problems with FW 400 devices on FW 800, so it's not necessarily a sure thing...

hey, did you ever get your expresscard to work?

i've got a problem that my FW800 port is very loose and every cable falls out of it with the slightest nudge.

until i have time to get my brand new MBP repaired (since i assume is a flaw) i need an expresscard.

was about to buy the belkin, but saw this post. anyone recommend a reliable FW 400 expresscard?

thanks much.
