Photoshop Elements 6 Install Problem

I just got PSE 6 Mac Version for my iMac and I have tried installing it a few times and it won't work. It installs the shared files (Bridge CS3, Help Viewer, and Stock Photo CS3) but after taking about 30 minutes for the installation, it doesn't install actual photoshop. On the last screen of the installation it says Error with installation of Adobe Photoshop Elements, but doesn't give a reason why. Does anyone know how to fix this and install the actual program? I already tried making a new admin id and installing it on that in case something on my id was interfering. PLEASE HELP!User uploaded file

I also have an installation problem with PSE 6. I get no further than SETUP which is refused
Error message:

System Requirements Error
This software cannot be installed because the file system of the OS volume is not supported

I have spoken with Adobe Tech Support and they say that the problem is incompatibility with my Hard drive File system which is presently Case-sensitive Journaled HFS+.

They indicate that HD should be either HFS or HFSJ

As I am new to tech questions can anyone give me instruction for a work around

Hi Michael.2m;

I am afraid there is no work around. It is a known problem with Case Sensitive HFS+ that many applications are not supported. The only way I know around this is to reformat your disk to HFS+. This of course will wipe out all data on the disk so backup anything you wish to save first.

May I ask why you formatted the disk as Case Sensitive HFS+? What do you hope to gain by that?

Hi Alan

Thanks for the reply. As to your question - Case sensitive - was an accident due to lack of knowledge. As per usual I learn by my mistakes.

If I have understood you correctly I have now to reformat my HD and reinstall all my software. Should keep me busy for a while

Ho Ho Ho PSE 6 was a Christmas present.

Thanks again

I tried 10 times to install PSE 6 on my intel iMac (1st gen) and it would never work. Five talks with Adobe rep had me installing it on new accounts, clean startup, etc. The software was sent back and a new one came, but still no luck. It bugged me so much that I bought a new iMac (2.3 ghz) and made the mistake of transferring old software to it before trying again. It still won't install. My old PS CS still works, but I need a native version but can't afford the newest CS upgrade. I also have InDesign, Acrobat and Dreamweaver which work.

Still don't know where to go with this...guess it will be back to Adobe for another round as they haven't heard about the new computer yet.

Hi Frank Land;

Ages ago when I first decided to get use Adobe products, I started off with demo software. When my real software finally arrived I deleted the demo software and then attempted to install the new. Nothing would install at all. I called Adobe support and their solution was to send me new media which worked as well as the original, not at all.

Finally on the Adobe forum one of the user there suggested a script that goes through your system and removes all of the bit and pieces that Adobe has installed throughout your system. Once I ran the script, everything installed like a champ.

This was a very long time ago and I can no longer find the script on my system. Maybe if you go to the Adobe forums and ask around for cleanup script that same user might be able to help you also.

Hi there. I just got bamboo fun pad with PE 6 as part of the bundle but it will not load on my mac PowerBook G4. Every other software loaded just fine. I have PE 3 and have the trial version of PE 6. I made sure my operation system, screen resolution etc. was correct per the install instructions. The error message I am getting is JavaScript Alert - critical errors were found in setup; Incompatible payloads already installed; Please see the setup log file for details. I think it is telling be to uninstall my other PE versions and to read the setup log. I don't know how to uninstall and don't understand the setup log info. Can you advise me what to do or what I should do? Many thanks in advance! Pamela

It's likely that the installer is balking because of other earlier PE installs. The solution should be to remove previous PE installations, then try again.

To remove the earlier installations you'll need to find all the preference, caches and so on as well as the application itself, so it may be best to try one of the free/shareware solutions such as appDelete or appZapper. (sorry, I don't have a link for them handy)

It would help of course if Adobe provided an uninstaller on the install disc as many other software developers do.

Ellyn; to repair permissions, go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility, select your home volume (usually Macintosh HD)in the list on the left, and click the 'repair permissions' button.

All is well now. I contacted Adobe's Techincal support number and they were able to walk me through how to resolve my installation trouble. I had to get ride of all the assisated trial copy files of Photoshop Elements 6.0 first; restart and empty the trash before I could do a clean reinstall attempt which worked. Thanks anyway 😉

I downloaded the trial version of PSE 6, I have now bought the full version on cd but when I try and install I get a message: critical errors found in setup, incompatible payloads already installed, see setup log file for details.

I have tried uninstalling the trial but there is no uninstall file anywhere.... I have looked properly.

I have tried CS3 clean script as suggested in another discussion.

I had trashed the original programme and found I shouldn't have done that so restored it from TM but still no uninstall file.

I have 5 days left of the trial.

I have emailed Adobe support and am waiting for a response.

Please help as this is driving me nuts and I have so far wasted a lot of money on software I can't use.

I have OS 10.5.5

Thanks.
