Strange File in Trash Won't Empty

I have acquired a strange file in my Trash; it's name is o.o and the the two o's have a tilde on top of each of them. It will not delete when I empty the trash; everything else does, but not it. I get no warning about it being in use or having a permissions problem; it just won't delete.

When I click on the file, the Preview column shows no image, no created or modified date, Kind = Alias, Size = 0 kb, Last Opened = fetching. If I click on the More Info button, I get none.

If I drag it out to the desktop, it goes away but comes back just as soon as the Trash icon is clicked or another item is dragged to the trash.

Based on a search of previous threads, I have tried the Option key method with no success and the sudo command in Terminal will not accept my password (no symbols register when the password is typed). I have repaired disk permissions and tried Secure Empty Trash. Nothing works.

Does anyone recognize this file symbol? Any ideas or am I doomed to have this file there forever?

Respectfully,
Patricia
