I've purchased iPod Touch for both my kids this Christmas, and I've set them up for Wi-Fi access in the house. On our iMac, I'm relatively comfortable with my kids browsing the internet because Leopard has built in Parental controls which seem to work reasonably well (much to my kids annoyance!) However I'm disappointed to find that there's no parental controls on the iPod touch versions of Safari, Youtube etc. other than to completely disable the applications. Am I missing anything? Does anyone know of any utilities?
That's all there is at the moment. However, a company has designed an application to provide selective parental controls which they expect to be approved soon on the iTunes Apps Store. Check this out: http://www.mobicip.com/
If you go to the general settings you will find a category called restrictions, in there you will find a toggle to disable "explisive" content. I know it will block unrated movies, however I have not tested internet content yet with this function. I assume it will block the obvious stuff but you would have to test it to be sure
That settings only blocks explicit content on the iTunes WiFi Store. Right now the only internet filter is Safari and YouTube completely OFF and no web access. From the
User Guide page 95
This is VERY disappointing. I understand the whole Apple anti-Orwellian slant, but the truth is that parents (and employers) need to have this functionality.
Any idea when this will be an updgrade to Safari / Facebook / iTouch?
