iPhone shuts down when unplugged - permanent startup loop.

Original iPhone (not 3G):

I had just installed a couple of free games from AppStore (both in the Top 25) and was playing a third game, Darts, when all of a sudden then iPhone screen flickers and the phone goes dead. No way to start it up again.

I tried charing with the USB cord attached to the computer with no luck: it didn't charge or turned on. I pluged into the wall socket and it started booting, but it wouldn't pass the Apple logo and it kept booting in a loop. After 3-4 times it gives up and shuts down again.

I tried all the mores there are: DFU, restore, reset. Turning it on (plugged) holding the Home button will show the iTunes icon, but it reboots again. And if I unplug it to connect the phone to the computer, it shuts down.

Anyone else having similar problems?

MacBook (early 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.6), Original iPhone (not 3G)

My iphone is having a similar problem except it works completely fine when it is on the charger. When it is off the charger it shuts off and keeps attempting to boot up but fails every time. The "genius's" at apple's genius bar had no idea what was happening and my plan is up so I apparently there is nothing I can do about it.
