periodic Dual-link display problem with new adapter

I just tried a friend's 30" Apple Cinema display with the EXACT same results as my Dell 30". This is very frustrating. C'mon Apple!

Agree. We seriously need a fix here. I ran with my previous Intel MBP from when they were first announced in 2006, and the same Dell monitor and Belkin TruAV cable I have now, and never had any problems at all. "Upgrading" to mini display port should not mean we are going backwards.

Feels a little like "upgrading" from Vista to XP, no?

I have the exact same issue and has actually frozen my machine when I unplugged it. Running a 15" new MacbookPro 2.4Ghz with every firmware and all updates and Apple's last model of cinema display (20 inch).

I have the same problem with my macBook Pro (late 2008) when using a Belkin FLIP KVM switch. I have a 30 " Apple Cinema display. When switching from a PC to Mac, the display has snow. I can get rid of the snow by removing the adapter plug and then replacing it. It cycles the video output of Mac and then the display is clear as you would expect.

I did not have this problem when I was using a PowerBook G4.

There is obviously something different about the signals in the DVI adapter for the Mini Displayport of my MacBook Pro.

I am using my MBP with an Apple 30" Cinema Display. Upto now, my assumption was that the Belkin KVM FLIP was the problem and was chasing them to help solve the problem.

I guess I have to contact Apple.

FYI - Using clamshell mode appears to have cured this problem for me. I'm using the 9600 chipset with no flickers and after about 6 hours of use now, have not had the screen draw issue. This is a decent enough workaround for me until there's a legitimate solution to this issue.

Stupid question, but what do you mean by "clamshell mode"?

Clamshell mode is when the macbook is closed and you are only utilizing the external display/kb/mouse.

Nevermind - The problem just kicked in while using clamshell mode too. So, while the issue occurs less frequently, it's not a workaround.

There was obviously NO (ZERO) QA done on this adapter. Nothing like trying to save a buck at the customer's expense Apple!

The reviews are displaying for me also. 2 star average from 45 reviews is not too good. Hopefully a software fix arrives soon!
