how do you convert 8-bit wav file into 16-24 bit file using compressor

could anyone give me a step by step guide on how to convert a 8 bit file into 16 bit one so i can use it in logic or just tell me what I am doing wrong.I have added the file to the top left of the compressor program dragged the audio setting 48KHz 16 bit aiff stereo audio next to it then selected desktop destination and dragged that into the area as well.I then hit submit and a message appeared saying"one or more targets are incomplete,Each target assigned to job must have a setting and destination".I have setting and destination so what am I doing wrong?
