error 1607

Please help. I have an ipod already installed. I just purchased an ipod mini for my son but can't install the software. I keep getting an error 1607. I called apple and they just directed me to the installsheild website which is confusing. I've tried a few things but am getting very frustrated because my son wants to use his new ipod. I would appreciate any help. I have windows XP.

hi Michelle!

the best way to deal with a 1607 will involve following the directions at installshield.

start here:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

(1) download fresh software installers for itunes and ipod using the links given on that page. save them to your hard drive and run the installation from there.

(2) if you have trouble with the 1607 when you use the fresh installers, click on the error 1607 link, start trying some of the suggestions that they make on that particular page. you may have to do more than one.

if you still keep running into trouble, post back, and tell us what you've tried so far.

good luck!

hi joanne!

hmmmm. people usually only get the 1639 when they are installing off the CD.

the best thing to do is to download fresh installers from the Apple website. save those installers to your hard drive (don't run the installation on line). there are links to the installers in this document here:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

also, follow the general advice given
b below
the advice for the specific error message codes.

if you get another 1607, follow the 1607 link to advice on avoiding it.

good luck! keep us posted on your progress.

Hi B,
Thanks to answer back. Just some clarification, i never get error 1607. I just could not find the way to start a new subject.
I download a fresh intaller to my hard drive and run it from it but i still got the error 1639
The window says feature error 1639 Invalid command line argument, consult window SDK for detailed command line.
Where do i fing the "SDK"
Thanks..

I installed on the (D:) hard-drive ALSO NAMED THE PRESARIO_ RP

good gracious ... okay, that's almost certainly your problem. A google tells me that the PRESARIO_RP is a small partition that is used by compaq to store installation files (in lieu often of giving someone an installation CD ...)

so download those installers again, but this time save them to the C drive and run the installation from there.

keep us posted.

hi joanne!

i'm a little confused too. you said in your first post:

need help, We just purchased 2 ipod, i installed on with out any issues,

where did you install the software for that first ipod? there should be two different things that get installed: itunes and the ipod mini software.

what happened when you ran the ipod mini software?
