No sound in Quick Look

No sound in Quick Look

Hi,

Whenever I try to Quick Look a video file, i can see the video but there is no sound. If I open the same file in a media player, I can hear the sound. The same problem is with audio files, there is no sound when I Quick Look such media files. Any Solutions?

Hello,

When I say that I 'Quick Look' a file, it means that I select the pic, audio, or video file and press space, so that Finder plays the file without the need to actually open a video playing application

Did you notice whether the speaker icon on the left had a slash through it? It's kinda small, so you may not notice it (I had the same problem until I noticed that. I clicked on the speaker and the sound came on)
Quick Look won't let you control volume, but it does let you turn sound on and off.

The usual cause for this is that Quicktime (which is the technology QL uses to view the movies) does not have the correct Codec to display the video correctly.

Try install Perian

Thanks for all the advice guys but I figured out that the problem was something else. I already had Perian installed and the speaker icon in the Quick Look window had no slash over it (Not Muted). Actually, I use an application called "Hear" to amplify my Mac's audio output. There is a window in it for the control of volumes of running apps, and Finder was accidentally muted in it. Everything is fine now. Thanks for the help anyway.

Haha, I had the exact same problem and I ended up having the exact same solution: Hear was muting any sound from Finder. I don't recall ever turning down Finder in the mixer though...
