ipod touch recognized, won't sync, sync option is greyed out

I have a new ipod touch and I'm having sync issues. itunes recognizes the device but under the file tab, sync ipod is greyed out. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both of the latest versions of itunes and even quicktime, I have 800 songs in my library and I can't do anything, it's so frustrating! Can anyone help me?!, it would be MUCH appreciated,

Has your iPod been formatted for Mac? I don't believe this would be a problem, but who knows.

Try this, it should fix a variety of problems...

Connect your iPod.
Go to iTunes.
Select your iPod in the sidebar.
Hit "Restore".

This will delete everything on your iPod and format it for the OS iTunes is running on.

Try syncing now.
