New Cinema Display Colour problems

Hi everyone,

I connected a new Apple Cinema Display to my new Macbook Pro. Sometimes I see something i want to call "colour changes"... Its not as hard as it sounds but for example the colour "white" gets a little red/rosa touch, few seconds later a little blue/green touch and after few seconds it switch back to normal, in this case white.

Does anyone else is having this issue? Does anyone know how to solve it?

Best wishes and happy christmas,
Philipp

I started to notice this last week, I have owned the monitor about a month. Not sure if it always been that way or just started.

Thanks,

Justin

hi flipflop86,

same problem here: after a specific time my cinema display starts to "shift" colors, from a "cold" temperature to a "warmer" one (and back and forth). this continues to happen also after i did a "expert calibration" in the display settings...

if anyone finds out why this happens please let me know, otherwise i will return the display...

best wishes,

chris

I've seen the "color temperature shift" problem on both my LED displays driven by a 2.4 MacBook. I called Apple and got a case number. Judging from my conversation with the phone support agent (professional as always), this seems to be a recognized problem as he had a specific remedy.

I was directed to go into both the root and then the user library and delete the preference: com.apple.windowserver.plist (there were several in my User Library). Then I was directed to zap PRAM. I didn't see the problem occur after that. . .but. . .a couple of days later when I was working at my other location with my second LED display, after about 8 hours of the MacBook running, the problem started again.

Pure speculation here, but I would surmise that the issue is in the MacBook and not the monitors. I also suspect that it may be a thermal issue with the new video cards. Another call to Apple will be in order after the New Year holiday.

I finally gave up and took the display back for a refund. After exchanging the display the new one had the same issue. So, I decided to exchange the MacBook just to see if that was the problem and it still did it. So, it is definitely a problem affecting all of the new displays. I suspect that anyone who hasn't noticed it just hasn't used it long enough. It would only happen after the computer had been on for about four hours without a break. So, anyone who plans to purchase this combo to use as their main system should be aware that you will most likely have this annoying color shift if you use the system all day long as I do mine. Until this problem is fixed, the MacBook + 24" LED combo is not an adequate replacement for a desktop.
