iTouch 2.2 software update problem

I saw a question about this from 2007 (here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5442919&) , but the problem was with iTunes 7 software. I have iTunes 8 and the same message still shows up.

yeah it says i don't have permission to access the requested sourceee. ahhh my head hurts from trying to figure this out...

i have this problem too! i have tried to see if the network is working and it says my internet is fine and i have tried to see if it was anti virius blocking it or something and turned it off and it didnt work either, i also tried restoring it and it gave me the same message! i think i am going to call apple in the morning! lol

I'm wondering if we have to update to 2.0 BEFORE it will let us do the 2.2 update?
It's seems to me if that were the case the system should be smart enough to realize whats going on.

Apples servers are probably getting a beating right now with all of the new iPods and itunes card given out for Christmas. We'll probably have an answer within 24 hours.

I've been updated to 2.0 since the 2.0 update was released. I have a 1st Gen iPod touch and I am having the same problem today updating to 2.2. My guess is that Apple's servers are strained from all the new iPod's attempting to register/update/etc... today. Things will probably be ironed out tomorrow.

If you bought a new 2nd generation touch, it came with at least 2.1.

I have a first-gen refrub. It came with 1.1.5 installed.

I went to iTunes and paid for the 2.2 update. No luck so far so I'm hoping for better luck later.

In the OLD days, those of us in the US could download our upgrades in the middle of our night; now a days, everything is so 'global' things are busy 24 hours a day.

Same thing here. Says I don't have permission blah blah blah. Try again tomorrow? Jeez. I paid $9.95 to get the upgrade and can't get it now. Frustrating to say the least.
