Just got a Flip Mino HD. You can put movies made by it directly into iTunes and play them on your Mac. The videos won't show up in Apple TV. I think this is because the Flip HD makes the movies with 30 fps as opposed to the 24 fps that Apple TV requires.
What is the best way to do this? If you convert the file using iTunes, the file size (and I assume the quality) is much smaller. Same if you use Quicktime Pro, from the experiments I did.
I tried both VisualHub and handbrake. Both could create versions that were playable on Apple TV; however, both created files with reduced quality (much smaller size).
Does anyone know how I can use one of those programs (or Quicktime Pro) to just change the frame rate and nothing else of video produced by a HD camcorder such as the Mino HD??
It is too bad that Apple TV doesn't read 30 fps. iTunes does. I can just drag files from my Mino HD into iTunes and view them (they look great) but Apple TV won't recognize them.
You really don't want to be changing the frame rate of a movie, it will lead to jerky motion. I'd be trying the built in itunes converter first (advanced/create Apple Tv version)
Thanks Winston & Brian. I admit that I filmed an experimental 3 minute or so video on Christmas day and converted using iTunes as you described. It looked very good, even though the file size was greatly reduced from the original.
