Does iPhone need anti spam program?

I know this is a dumb question probably, but does the iphone need a anti spam program?
I was reading somewhere(of course cant remember where now) but it said that if you have a lot of crashes etc. your phone had a bunch of spyware on it.
My iphone crashes all the time, or I should say when I'm browsing in just shuts the browser down and I have to reopen. I do have some lockups, but not what I would consider a lot.
Is it just old good AT&T

Spam should be handled by your email provider's server; Gmail, AOL, and all of them have their own spam filters and will still be filtering spam even when checking email on your iPhone.

If you are having problems with crashing safari make sure you have the latest 2.2 software installed. After a safari crash it is also good practice to reset your iPhone, hold down the top button and home button for 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. This should stave them off for awhile, until the next reset is needed, just like any computer will benefit from a reboot after weeks of being on and heavy use.

You can't download things to the iPhone so it's not possible to have spyware on it.

The browser can crash if the webpage is graphics heavy or poorly written. Some apps are poorly written and can also cause crashes. In most cases, a reset (hold the sleep/wake & home button until the Apple logo appears) will correct many issues.
