my mini doesn't show up on my comp, charge or turn on

my mini ipod when i plug it in, it doesn't charge. it doesn't even pop up on the computer. but when i plug in my friend's mini ipod it works... why is that? is it broken? ... and how do i know what generation is the mini??? thanks.

This happened to my ipod mini after 28 days it is currently in for repair.

that happened just today with my ipod mini too! try keeping it on the charger and restarting it by pressing the center button and menu and holding them down. if that doesnt work i suggest that you take it in for service even though i had to take mine in for service before and i had to be three months without my ipod and they couldnt fix the problem so they ended up giving me a new one. im so sick and tired of my ipod mini because of all its problems with it im ready to through it out the window and im soo close to buying the ipod nano. hope i helped!
