Program to make music DVD Video using hi-res audio files

Is there software that will burn music dvd videos using hi-res (i.e., 24-bit) audio files? (Need it for players that don't have DVD-Audio capability). iDVD only allows 16 bit/48k; I also have Logic Express 8 but it only burns to the DVD-A format. On the Windows side, I even have DiscWelder Bronze but, again, it only does DVD-A. This should be easy to do but apparently not.

hey there m stan,
if you're just wanting to move/save the audio files as data, you can use Toast(Mac, PC or ISO) or Disk Utility(Mac).

the spec for DVD audio when converted to M-PEG 2 standard for DVD video is nowhere near 24- bit/96K or 24-bit 128K. these are the standards for pro audio recording & these files are then down-rez'd for audio CDs @ 16-bit/44.1 K. the current audio standard for digital video is 16-bit/48K, so even if you could get the audio & DVD on the same disc, one or the other would be compromised as there isn't enough space to accommodate all of the data. generally the audio is sacrificed 1st, when using a "Pro" DVD authoring suite such as Scenarist or DVD SP. there really haven't been many DVD-Audio(mostly in 5.1) discs produced for a few years, if you have any, one thing to try might be to contact the firm that pressed them.

good luck.

What I want to do is make hi-res DAD discs (see for example the old Classic or Chesky DADs) which are playable on any dvd player. I believe the DVD spec allows for 24 bit, 96k audio and there should be plenty of room on a DVD for an hour (or two) of uncompressed 24 bit 96k stereo PCM audio. BTW, can you buy DVD Pro 4 as a standalone program? It looks like it is bundled with the Final Cut suite at $1300 which is beyond what I need.

I use Toast to burn data discs all the time. I've never used Toast to do what you want to do. And frankly I am surprised that it does, what with Toast essentially being a consumer application and burning audio @ 24-bit/96KHz being a VERY niche market. The only "negative" I have ever heard about Toast is that for video DVDs it has a very simplistic menu, not like the built in themes you can choose from via iDVD. Other than that, Toast is one of the most recommend utility programs for the Mac. And the only one I know of that will allow you to do what you want without spending the money for the FCP Suite or Adobe's Encore.
