If someone could help me with this I would much appreciate it. This morning, my iphone 3g suddenly lost all signal reception and now says "no service". I know that it isn't a coverage or outage issue, because my sister has the exact same phone and is on the same service plan, and we both had them in the same areas. Hers has nothad this issue. I didn't do anything softwarewise within the last week as far as updates or anything. I also didn't drop the phone, get it wet, or damage it in any way. It was working fine last night and I've never had this problem before. I tried turning it off and on, turning airplane mode off and on, and I have 2.2 installed on it. I've been looking through discussion threads for an answer but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue? Thanks
thx for the response. i tried both of those solutions, but neither worked. after doing the first reset, i had a half a bar of reception for literally a fraction of a second, and then it went back to "no service". doing the second reset you suggested didn't fix the problem either.
ok i tried taking my sim card out and putting it back in. i got a half a bar of service for like a second and then "no service" again. i tried swapping my sister's sim card in and it did the same thing. when i put her sim card back into her phone, she got reception though. it must be something other than the sim card.
I am in Wisconsin and having the same problem. For some reason it does not affect every phone. My phone has been down for quite some time now while my wife's identical iPhone on the same plan was working fine. Due to this, I attempted a restore. The phone now sits useless in its dock awaiting reactivation. A few minutes ago my wife's phone went to no service as well.
I am having the same problem. I live near Joliet Illinois and dont under stand what happening. I have had it at 3 bars but no 3G then as soon as i try to may a call it will search for a little bit then No Service pops up.
The other I failed to mention is a possible Apple<->AT&T negotiation failure which similarly happened a few months into the iPhone 3G debut on July 11. The east coast lost iPhone 3G service for nearly a week before the problem was resolved. EDGE worked, but not 3G. I could call people but no data was going. E-Mails, Calendars, Contacts, etc all kablooey.
As per you described earlier, the other cellphone has 3G service but you do not. So it could be an Apple<->AT&T negotiation problem. Dial 611 and mention your iPhone 3G along with a few others you talked with on here are experiencing this problem.
It took me a very very long time. At least 20-30 minutes to get an answer last time when I called. So of course have patience when dealing with the waiting game.
same problem here in Naperville. phone was working great, but stopped this morning.
tried reset, restart, restore with no effect.
reset SIM card. no effect. occasionally it will change from "No Service" to 1 bar, but not long enough to do anything. putting the SIM card from the iPhone into my Treo gave me 4 bars.
where was the info posted about the regional outages? I imagine a lot of us are interested in tracking that info...
In addition to 5 bars, I now have Edge network access for the first time (I'm pretty sure) from my home location. was this perhaps a planned upgrade to one or more of the towers around here? or is that too much to hope for?
May want to dial 611 and speak to AT&T or go to an AT&T store. Either the phone went bad or it's a bad communication with the towers. If you are under warranty they can replace it.
There is an official outage that is affecting a lot of areas from Wisconsin down to Illinois, and over to the East. I'm in Michigan and have the same issue.
