How do I access to /private/tmp folder?

Greetings all,

I am a new MAC user and I have several folders/files in my trash that won't delete. I am using a MacBook Pro w/OS 10.5.6. Additionally, these files are associated to the files that I have deleted in the Windows O/S system within Parallels 3.0 Build 5626.

The files that are in the trash are only visible when I have the Parallels application running. If the Parallels application is not running the files are not visible from within the Mac trash can.

When I click on the file 'Get Info' (from within the trash can), the files are located in the /private/tmp folder. Please advise how I can manually delete the associated files and folders. Is there a way to enable the private folder so I can view all of the contents?

Thanks for the assistance.

MacBook Pro4,15, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
