My ipod wont let mme unlock it i was wondering how to restart it

2nd Generation Ipod Touch, Windows XP

    by holding down the home button and on/off button

    My ipod is locked and i have tried restoring it, pushing the center and menu buttons simultaneously but nothing will unlock it. i have never used a passcode to lock or unlock it before. Please HELP! Thank you.

    That doesn't sound like an iPod Touch to me! I recommend you post a new topic of your own in the correct forum for your iPod model. If you are not sure which model you have, check on this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353

    you hold the buttons down you dont just keep pressing them. you hold them down until you see the apple logo appear. and it will go from there

    It's a matter of security. If it's not yours, you'll most likely won't be able to restore/unlock it - at all. Contact the original owner to have them restore it for you. This is not as easy to undo with previous versions of iPods.

    On the other hand if it is yours, you should be able to use the original computer to restore it as indicated in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212

    The last and only thing left is to contact Apple directly (in store/phone) where they should be able to verify your registration/proof of purchase information and assist with unlocking it.
