Video Resolution for iPod 5G AND iPhone?

Hi, I would like to use a single video resolution for both my iPod 5G and iPhone. I've tried a variety of resolutions, and can get some to sync and play on the iPod, but not the iPhone, and visa versa. Any suggestions?

MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.5.6), Time Capsule, iPod 5G, iPhone 3G
