I have my emails from work fowarded to my iphone gmail account and I am not getting an alert sound or vibration, only way to see is if I go to mail, and then it pops up. Please help.
Thanks for your help, I did go to sound settings and new mail alert is switched on, am i supposed to be able to get the alert even if I am on sleep mode?
the sound is fine, but im only getting the aleart if I open my mail, it then connects searches for mail then makes the sound, I dont get it if I am on sleep mode or even in another application.
Yes you should, but what are your fetch settings for mail? If it is every 15 minutes then you will get the alert at that time if you have mail. If you are set to manual you will only get the alert when you check your mail.
Yes, if you've a blank screen (or your iPhone's sleeping) then your phone should still bleep, just like a Text will still bleep.
Also check your FETCH settings, see if it's fetching your emails every 15 minutes, 30 minutes or Hourly - make sure your not set to MANUAL because it will not bleep then...
See the above post regarding the "fetch" settings. If you set it for "every 15 minutes" it should alert you when it receives mail, even if it's sleeping.
You can change to Yahoo, MobileMe, or Exchange mail and have Push mail, but fetching more often than every 15 minutes will really drain the battery in a hurry. If your work is using Exchange/Activesync will they not set an account up on your iPhone?
There seems to be a bug in the current iPhone software. After the phone has been on for a while, the notifications fall silent. Resetting the phone fixes it for a while.
Hopefully Apple will fix this in the next release.
I believe that this is a known problem with the current 2.2 version. I have my mail app set to fetch every 15 minutes with sound, but it rarily ever emits a sound. However, there are times (random?) were it works. I have seen other posts in this forum talking about this issue. There seems to be no resolution as of yet.
