Don't want ITunes to Manage my Music

I had bought a new computer and I had to install Itunes. Well, when you install Itunes, the question is asked if you want to let Itunes manage your library or do you want to do it manually. Not thinking and being quick to hit the mouse button, I said "let Itunes do it". Well, I dont want that to be the case. I want to manage my library. Is there a way to change..once installed...how I want my library to be managed? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to get that option to come back, but to no avail. Now I can’t correct any tags they are all grey when you open the info tab.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to edit tags in iTunes or on your iPod? The suggestion give to you above was how to stop iTunes from organizing your music. If what you're really asking is how to manually manage the music on your iPod, you need to put a check in the box on the Summary page (when the iPod is connected)next to Manually manage music.

If you can't edit the tags in iTunes, it could be a permissions error with your music files. Check to see if they're read only. In iTunes, you should be able to edit your tags regardless of whether iTunes is organizing your music or not. I have iTunes organize my music and edit tags with no problem.

Best of luck.

I recently purchased a new desktop computer and an external hard drive. I copied all my music from my old desktop (52 GBs) on to my new external hard drive. I downloaded the ITunes to my new computer added all my music onto Itunes, but when i go to edit the song information, the box and all of the fields are greyed out. This only is for songs i added to my hard drive from the desktop, and not music i have recently added to the folder. None of the folders are set to read-only, and none of the songs are set to read only either. I tried deleting an album from Itunes and re adding the same album by the exact folder, yet it is still greyed out. Any help would be appreciated.
