Hi, I purchased a HP Color LaserJet 1600, it is said/written that the printer will work for Windows and Mac. Am running the MacBookAir with Leopard, it doesn't work, even the CD to install the driver my hard drive doesn't accept, I also can't download a driver from the net, does anybody know what to do? Thx in advance, MariaT.
Here's a link to the UK support site, I think you can get live help from here - but according to the HP website, the printer you just bought is an old model that has been discontinued, and I can't see any Mac drivers for it either..... 😟
But it's puzzling that your computer won't read the CD....a quick browse through other HP Laserjet discussions in these forums gives me the impression that HP gives no support to Mac users and that other people have been having trouble with other HP models. 😟
Maybe you've been swindled. Maybe you should demand a refund.
Hi I'm not sure where you see the Color LaserJet 1600 is supported by OS X. I just checked HP's web site for drivers, the only OS's listed are Windows and Linux.
I think you were given mis-information about this printer being supported by HP. I know there are many on this forum that have difficulties with HP printers however as the owner of 3 in my home I have never had an issue. I suspect because HP sells more printers than anyone (over 50% of the market!) it's logical they get more complaints. While they are far from perfect they do support what they sell. One of the printers I own is a Color LaserJet 2600N the big brother to your machine. This device has also been discontinued but if you can find one they do work fine with OS X. It is essentially the same footprint however faster and has the ability to be a network printer.
I've got a client that is running a PC network and I convinced them to switch to macs - no problem! Except that their HP Color Laserjet 1500L will not work AT ALL because there are no drivers for Leopard! Really, what's up with HP. Don't they understand that when we buy new printers because theirs no longer work, that we simply won't buy HP's anymore? How hard is it to upgrade drivers. Anyone find anything that works?
I have a HP CLJ 1600. It runs fine with an opensource driver available from foo2zjs.rkkda.com
Installation is complicated but the instructions are detailed and clear.
Make sure you install the latest version of ghostscript first or the colour is poor.
Best of luck
