Quicktime Pro .m4v edit

I edited a QT Pro .m4v file — literally took 2 black seconds off the front. When I save it, it saves as .mov.

Is there a way to save it as a .m4v file?

Your original H.264/AAC data remains unchanged -- merely re-written to an MOV container in order to keep the trimmed content but get rid of the unwanted content.

Not as a simple save. However, since the MP4 and M4V containers have essentially the same features/characteristics, you could always open the MOV file in MPEG Streamclip, use the "Save As..." command to re-save the data in an MP4 container, and then just change the MP4 extension to M4V in the finder. Would that suite your needs?
