In this case, if you get a hosting package from 123 reg, then no, by uploading your site to the space there, you are hosting your site on their servers.

To be able to host a site yourself, you need to go to System Preferences and click on sharing and then click on web sharing or rather than using Mac OS 10.5 you need to purchase a copy of Mac OSX server and use this.

It is much simpler just to get a hosting package from 123 reg with your domain name and publish and upload to their server with Cyberduck.

It is a lot of work to run one a machine as a server and you need two computers as well.

Sam ~ This article may help:

_WWW FAQs: How do I host a real domain name at home?_

...which is a sub-article of this one:

_How do I host my own website at home?_

...which asks the qstn:

_Should I host my own web server?_

...and begins: +"Hosting it yourself takes lots of time, saves very little money, and often provides very unreliable service."+

I'm not suggesting that you purchase it by any means and I know nothing about it other than it exists so I can't tell you what to do once you have it. You'll need to figure that one out for yourself!!

I do not host my own server - I have a registered domain name with GoDaddy and use their Linux hosting space too and I find it good and reliable as my site is for work.

I would strongly suggest that you read what Alancito has posted. Read those links - I just did and it gives you very good info about the ins and outs of hosting yourself and the pitfalls. Unless you are really serious, it is probably more trouble than it is worth. I would just upload to some hosting space with 123 reg if I were you.
