Can't change song info in itunes library.

I have my music kept on a portable hard drive and it all shows in the library but when I go to change the artist or song title in the "get info" area it is all gray and wont let me change anything. When I move the songs into my itunes file on my computer I can change anything I want but I don't want all of my music on my computer for space reasons can anyone help?

Sounds like a permissions thing. Open "Computer", right-click on your external hdd and select Properties. In the General tab, see if the "Read-Only" box is checked. If it is, clear the check mark. If not, go to the Security tab. Make sure the account you are using has "Full Control" on this drive. If this is properly set, ensure that the sub-folders are properly inheriting privileges from parent folders.
