Problems Recording Multiple Instruments

I have multiple midi controllers, and I want one to control two instruments, and the other to only record one. All at the same time. I have auto demix by channel turned on. Midi controller 1 is set to Channel 2, and Midi controller 2 is set to channel 3.

Instrument 1(Piano) is set to Channel 2 (Set it by clicking the drop down for Inst 1)

Instrument 2(Strings) is also set to Channel 2, set the same way except for Inst 2

Instrument 3(Guitar) is set to Channel 3.

All tracks are armed. I can hear the piano and guitar, but not strings.
When I drag the strings track above the piano track in the Global Track, I can hear the strings, but not the piano. It only records and monitors the top track. How can I monitor and record both the instruments at the same time?

Another annoyance is when I have instrument tracks armed, and click an audio track to edit the parameters in Global Track, it automatically unarms my instruments, what's with that?

Thanks in advanced, please help me sort this madness, I pray for an easy way to assign instruments based on midi interface, instead of midi channels. Or A Record feature for Mainstage =)

Send feedback, although I fear Logic will need a good portion of the environment to be re-written, (or omitted) to separate the conjoined MIDI input. As far as I know, every other DAW recognizes the MIDI interface by name and allows choice per track and MIDI channel.

Instead of having a separate track for the Strings you could draw a cable in the environment from Instrument1 to Instrument2. Thus both will behave as one (layered) instrument controlled by a single track.

Hi,
Just check the "Auto Demix by channel if multitrack recording"
on Song Setting > Recording preference
User uploaded file
-----------
You can control up to 16 Instruments in Live mode by using Master keybord capable to send 16 midi channel as splitted in ZONE of the Keyboards

I use a Roland A80 master keyboard.

(No environment rewrite is required in Logic... Midi works perfectly)

Do I still have to create a track first, in order to do the cabling in the environment correct?

I added my three tracks, then in the Mixer Environment View Connected the piano and strings together, both played. When I recorded, and it did the auto demix, I had to make a copy of the midi data for track two and paste it to track one, even though both were armed, it only recorded one track (for that midi channel, the guitar track was fine) I would like to have separate tracks for separate instruments so that I could edit each track individually if I needed to, after I recorded both tracks simultaneously.

Also, do you know anything about it automatically de-arming all virtual instrument whenever an audio track is clicked?

No, doesn't matter.

If you have 2 tracks assigned to the same MIDI channel, Logic will record/demix only to one of them.
So I think you need in fact to make a copy for individual editing.

Also, do you know anything about it automatically de-arming all virtual instrument whenever an audio track is clicked?

Sorry, don't know but I agree it's quite annoying behavior.

He's already done that, didn't you read the original message?

That's not what he's trying to do.

Hard to say since you didn't understand the question in the first place.
