Need to count days between two dates. Please help.

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to somehow count the number of days between two days?

Example:

5.May.08 - 22.Nov.07 = 163 days

It may help to search for DATEDIF in the help 😉

With 22 Nov 07 in A2
5 May 08 in B2

type:
=DATEDIF(A,B,"D")
in C2

The returned result is not 163 but 165.

Sometismes a direct subtraction can work just fine

For the simple substraction, it ALWAYS works if we know that there is no embedded time value in the cells.
With embedded time values, the result would be a decimal number and it may be the exact result minus 23:59:59.
With
22 nov 2007 23:59:59
and
5 may 2008
we would get 164.000011574074
which is the decimal value for 164 00h00m01s

To get the same result than DATEDIF() it would be safer to use:
=DATE(YEAR(B);MONTH(B);DAY(B))-DATE(YEAR(A);MONTH(A);DAY(A))

In fact, I wished to push the OP to learn the path to the Help 😉

How strange I couldn't find it googling or otherwise. This "IF" at the end made me believe it's some kind of an IF statement. So cool that it's so easy. :))

The Help is our friend but the PDF User Guide delivered with every legal copy of iWork is a good one too.

It offers a more efficient search feature (searching in plain text, not in an index).
