Unlock Volume Limit

I've just bought a new iPod, but I can't unlock the volume limt. I haven't set a volume limit combination code or know of one that came with it.

I have had my 5th gen I-pod for a while and recently set my volume level and then locked it using a familiar 4 digit code...or so I thought. When I realized I had set the max level too low I went to unlock it and it shows the 2nd, 3rd, 4th digits as the ones I recall but the first digit lights up with red when I use any digit. So I don't know what the problem is! I have tried every possible digit in position 1 and it doesn't unlock. Do I really have to reset the whole device or is there some other way to find out what my code is?

I have the same problem and can´t live with the volume limit of an Ipod Classic bought in the EU and like to unlock it.

That is not the same problem. The other posters are referring to the volume limit found on the Settings menu. This is used, usually, to restrict the maximum volume of a child's iPod, to stop them damaging their hearing due to their lack of knowledge.

The EU *volume restriction* you are referring to cannot be removed on newer models of iPod, including yours. I believe the tools you mention did de-restrict older models.

There are booster amplifiers that you could use, but it would be remiss of me if I did not caution you about damaging your hearing if you listen too loudly when boosting volume. I found that extremely good quality headphones compensate for lack of volume. Yes, I am being serious. When I use my Bose on-ear headphones I do not use my Altoids amp, a small booster amplifier I use with most other headphones I own.

I'm in the EU as well, so I also have a restricted iPod. If you're in the EU then you know why. It's because the Brussels bureaucrats have decided to protect us from ourselves, whether we like it or not.

It's not just the USA that has non-restricted iPods, it's anywhere not in the EU; Japan, Australia, and even Nigeria presumably! If you feel that strongly about it, you should take it up with your MEP (Member of European Parliament) because Apple _will not ignore_ this restriction! (It's been discussed before in these forums.)
