Problem Installing iTunes

Every time I try to install iTunes an error pops up
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.
A program required for this install to complete could not be run.
Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

I downloaded the installation package from the official site, not a third-party. I've also tried installing quicktime first/separately.

Any ideas/help is welcome.

When you get this package error message, the problem is often Apple Software Update.

Try repairing it.
Go to add remove programs and select Apple Software Update>>Change>>repair.

If that doesn't work try to uninstall it. That will probably fail, if iT does you need an installer cleanup.

Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.

To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup

Delete all references to Apple Software update that you find with the clean up utility.

Restart Your PC.

Download the iTunes installer and save it on your desktop.

Try installing iTunes using the installer you saved.
