iPod Battery Overcharge Question

Can you overcharge battery of iPod be leaving it plugged in to iPod docking station (boom box style)? Docking station is always on. We have at it at an assisted living facility for my mother. Health aide told us to remove iPod from docking station once fully charged or else it will burn up battery. Is this true?
