Connection to the server “mail.comcast.net” on port 995 timed out

I have two e-mail addresses (Comcast and Gmail), but I cannot receive my mail from my Comcast address on the Mail app on my MacBook Pro. However, I am receiving my mail from my Comcast address when I visit the Comcast website, and I am receiving it from my Mail app on my first generation iPod Touch.

The warning says "connection to the server 'mail.comcast.net' on port 995 timed out." However, that same port gets my Mail on my iPod Touch.

Any ideas?

It could be an intermittent connection problem. Are you able to send without a problem? Have you tried creating a new user account and setting up the Comcast account in Mail there to see if the problem happens there? If it does, then it's a system-wide issue.

It could also be that your Mail preferences are corrupted. You can find out and fix it (assuming it's the real problem) like this:

1. Quit Mail if it's running.
2. Go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.mail.plist file.
3. Restart Mail, setup your account(s) again and wait for Mail to find your existing mailboxes. Then test to see if the problem persists.
