How to search on Time Capsule

I use Time Capsule as a external HD. Unfortunately i can't do search on it.
On the finder Window i do cmd-f and see "this mac" "time capsule" ... it's no problem to search this mac, but it won't find anything on time capsule at all.
What's wrong?

MacBook Pro, wireless connected for Internet and external Disc with Time Capsule

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

You should be careful when search the Time Machine backup via Finder. Don't alter any of the files/folders. Best to restore/view files via the TM interface. What are you looking for?

For Time Capsule, the TM backups are saved as a sparsebundle Disk Image. Just mount the image first by clicking on the ---.sparsebundle file. It should mount on your Desktop and you should be able to access the files then.

Thanks for helping.
I didn't use TimeMachine at all.
The content is copied on TC by myself, to use it from different mac's.
It's not extremely convinient, because it's rather slow. But well, the problem is, that normal searchings are not possible at all.
Even if i search for just one letter, it doesn't find anything.
I think it did work from a older mac without leopard.

Hey Guys,
This thread is the closest I've seen to my issue... maybe you can help. Normally I have my Time Capsule connected to my Mac Pro with hourly backups to it with Time Machine. I was hoping to take Time Capsule with me on a business trip so I'd have access to all my files but when I try connecting it to my Mac Book I can log in to the drive but can't seem to get to any of the files. Do I need to access them via Time Machine or am I missing another step somewhere?

The best way to access your TM backups is via Time Machine. Ctrl-click the TM icon on the Dock and select +Browse Other Time Machine Disks+. You may need to mount the sparsebundle (Disk Image) first to accomplish this. Double click the sparsebundle to do so. If your MacBook isn't OS X 10.5.x, you may be able to simply mount the disk image and view the folders, but you must not alter any of the contents.

You haven't indicated whether you have TM on your MacBook. Regardless, you should be able to copy (DO NOT ALTER) the files to your laptop. If not using TM, just mount the disk image and browse the folders manually. I would suggest you try it before taking the TC on out of town trips. Frankly, I don't consider TC a portable device in the true sense of the word. Just my opinion.

I found out, if i mount TimeCapsule with smb://10.0.1.1, then i can do searches with cmd-f or just type the word into the finder window on the top right and it actually it finds things…
Thats all I want, but the question is here - what going to be the problems with that smb-mode in contrary to afp?
one thing is: I don't see my personal icons for folder...
