I am having problems with my teenage son staying up late on the internet, sleeping in and then missing school. Is it harmful to a router or modem to plug one of them into a wall outlet timer , such as the kind used for lamps when your away from home.... so I can set it to turn off and on as I wish. The router and modem is in my room and he would have no access to it once Im alseep. If this would have no harmful affects by turning one or the other off and on daily then it would be allot easier then crawling behind the computer table and unplugging the cable to the modem or router. Is there a better choice between the modem or router two to have plugged into the wall timer which will turn only one off ...
Or is there a better method all together.
Thanks Much

I always turn off my router by just flicking the switch off at the wall outlet without using the switch on the router itself. So, using a timer is pretty much the same as doing this.
I have no ideas if this is not recommended or not, but I've not had any problems doing this for the past year (and it saves power 🙂 ). That's just my personal opinion of course.
