Broken Seal

Just received my brand new macbook pro. Took it out of the box and the seal that is on the clear plastic that the laptop is wrapped in, is broken. It looks like it was cut with a knife except for 0.5cm either side where it was torn.

Any idea why or if I should be concerned?

Your new MBP should not come with a broken seal. I would recommend that you call Apple immediately and report this to them. If nothing else, you need to document that the seal was broken when you received it. Maybe even take a picture of it if you haven't already unwrapped it. Maybe even get a case number.

You are probably well within your rights to ask for a replacement that does not have a broken seal. If you would rather not do that and keep the one you have, you need to do a careful inspection and make sure that everything is there and that nothing is missing. The only reason for the seal to be broken is that someone was messing with it for some reason. It may turn out there is nothing wrong, but it may also turn out that there is.

Talk to Apple, and then decide what you want to do.

Good luck!

Ye I rang them and told them and got a case number. I opened it up and all seems to fine, nothing missing, not that there could be much seeing as it was just the unit not the box. It ran through the leopard welcome and setup.
It's my 5th replacement Apple laptop, 6th ever Apple laptop and my 7th Mac so I'm really not in the mood to have to send it back again. I have enough behind me to demand and instant replacement if anything crops up, as well as making friends with customer relations!

In regards to customs, I could understand the actual box being opened, but the clear plastic that the laptop is almost shrink-wrapped in?? And no other seals were broken...

Thanks for the replies

Regards
