iwork '08 upgrade to iwork '09

i just recently purchased a new macbook pro for christmas, an add-on was the iworks '08 package i paid for. Now a couple of weeks later i see iworks '09 is available??

Am I eligible for a free upgrade? if so whats the procedure to do so...

I will be highly annoyed if I am not, as there was no mention of iworks '09 on the sales page as an option when I was purchasing..!!

tks.

The only person who can make you feel screwed is you.

iWork'09 will have its bugs and glitches for a few months to come. The last thing you need now is to deal with software that gives you grief. Spend the next few months getting to know iWork'08 an by that time, most of those new software glitches will be worked out.

Good Luck.

I feel for you man, I bought '08 several months ago and I still feel like I got screwed. There are so many things that are missing that I would have just expected to be present in an office suite. Now they have added several of them and want me to pay another $99 and next year they will add a few more and charge me another $99, sounds like a heck of a business plan to me. I think I will just go back to Office 2008, at least it is mature software even if it isn't as elegant as iWork.

Similar thing happened to me. As a student I thought I should purchase the iwork 08 when I bought my macbook pro in may. I recieved the software first then my laptop came. inside the box was another copy of iwork 08 along with a remote, which I also purchased. they gentleman on the phone forgot to mention that it came with these things, I spent an extra 100 cnd

iWorks was not announced till the MacWorld tradeshow this week and will not be available till the end of the month.

To a certain extent I feel for you, but there always will be a line drawn in the sand, usually on the date of the announcement of the new software. People in the Apple community knew iWork was highly likely to be updated at MacWorld but previously we have been disappointed. I presume you bought your Mac when you got a good pre-Christamas deal, so which do you prefer the cheaper computer or later software and less time to play with your new toy?

Keep in mind that it is actually very cheap for the 3 programs, provided you use all 3.

Microsoft "charges" a whole lot more for its software then offers OLE "deals".

Depends on how gullible you are as to whether you think they are being nicer to you than Apple.

I think what you got in the box was a demo version of iWork not the licensed version. You still would have had to pay for a licence to use it past the trial period.

iWork '09 (no "s") was announced at Macworld on Tuesday as was iLife '09. iWork is availabe now, iLife is not available until the end of the month (my order at the online Apple Store says it will ship February 2).

If you are lucky enough to get a 'good christmas deal' on the apple store website then let me know 🙂 !! there was no Christmas deal, this was an investment paid for in full at the full asking price, upgrading RAM to max and upgrading HD.

The MBP arrived a week before christmas and less then two weeks later iwork '09 is available on the MAC store website.

Sure maybe I should have done some research to see if a new version would be available, I know if I was buying a car I'd certainly check when a new model might be out, but I still feel 'screwed' by the apple website for now indicating a new release of the software prior to my purchase, or at least the option of a free upgrade because so little time has passed since the purchase.

There are bugs in everything, they get fixed no biggy for me. I just don't like throwing money at a product that is now last years regardless of stability.

Two months ago I bought my first Mac - love it!! At the time I also bought iWork '08, which is a bit basic in the shadow of MS Office but I like it any way.

I'm not bitter about hearing of a new version only a couple months later, these things happen all the time with software and hardware. I do want to upgrade but there doesn't seem to be an upgrade option/price on the Apple store. Only the full price edition!

Surely Apple must offer their loyal, "yearly upgrade customers", a discount for their ongoing support, in the form of an upgrade price???

Have I missed something here?

Hi, everybody. Every single time Apple announces or releases a new version of anything, be it hardware or software, it is greeted with a deafening chorus of gripes from people who think they're entitled to get it for free because they own an older version.

If all of you were to be locked up together in a room until you reached a unanimous agreement on who should receive a free copy of iWork '09 and who shouldn't, given that it would never be released unless it were going to be profitable, then you might have some idea of what Apple is up against in making those decisions, and why free upgrades aren't offered at all.

Very simple: because iWork '09 hadn't been announced. Apple doesn't offer yet-to-be-announced products for sale. They're available after they're announced. You apparently decided iWork '08, the then-current version, was worth buying. It still does everything it did when you made that decision; it hasn't become any less useful as a result of the introduction of iWork '09 than it was two weeks ago. Use and enjoy it, and download the free 30-day demo of iWorks '09 so you can compare the two and see whether '09 offers any new features you can't do without (or has any new bugs you can't live with).
