If none of the troubleshooting steps you have tried resolve it and this wasn't caused by accidental damage, doubtful that Apple will repair it. With a warranty claim regardless the problem, an exchange is involved so if you make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby, sync your iphone with iTunes before heading to the store for your appointment.

Or you can call AppleCare at (800) 694-7466 and handle everything over the phone.

Apple will not repair it, they will exchange it. By the time they open your iPhone and take it apart to replace something if needed, they might as well refurb it when they get to that point - replacing anything else that may need to be replaced. They don't refurb iPhones at an Apple store anyway.

You won't lose any data on your iPhone if you use it as designed and intended. iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process.

Your iPhone's backup includes data such as most iPhone settings, email account settings, contact info, recent calls, call favorites, SMS messages, notes, photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll, and 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app.

All other data available on your iPhone should remain on your computer such as all iTunes content and photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.

Although contact info is included with your iPhone's backup, the iPhone is designed to be synced with the supported application on your computer for contact info, calendar events, and bookmarks.

With a Windows PC, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 for contact info and calendar events, or with the address book used by Outlook Express with XP, or with the address book used by Windows Mail with Vista - the name change for OE with Vista for contact info.

Photos available in your iPhone's Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
